To give a little background, at my school, Voyagers' Community School, their students are given two weeks to completely immerse themselves in a topic they would like to venture into. The type of projects done is a large range to where they can't fit on this page. To talk a little bit about my 2019 Winter Project Weeks, I decided to dive into understanding the gender gap in STEM (particular computer science) and women computer science. In addition to that, I also looked a little into activism in gaming and created a mini-game myself at the end of my project using Unity.

For this project weeks, I wanted to learn what it takes to be a good computer coder/game creator, informing myself about female coders, ways activism is expressed in video games, and lastly how to code a small game.

I have always had a passion for computer science and the idea of making my own game and or website. When I am coding, it forces me to think outside the box and constantly think of solutions to fix whatever I may be creating or to improve the creation. Coding makes me think in a creative way that could make my game have more meaning or enjoyable to play.

During this project, I will mainly be focusing on female coders ( and the lack thereof), what it takes to be a coder, and activism expressed in gaming. I will, of course, be relearning the coding languages I had unfortunately forgotten, however, around the end of each day I did a little coding or learning to code and refresh my knowledge of code. By the end of this project, the presentation showed my research and a small mini-game to show my growth in learning how to code.

Completion of this project, or at least the second part of my project required the skill of knowing how to code HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, however, that was dealt with using Codecademy and other coding references to build my vocabulary of computer code. To serve as a reminder to not overwhelm, it is a mini-game so I used the basics of a little bit of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
